Nichol was wearing this jersey while playing against the Dallas Stars on February 1, 2006, when he slid headfirst into the boards after losing his balance in a chase for the puck. Medical personnel rushed onto the ice to attend to Nichol, who appeared motionless for several minutes. After a 15-minute delay, Nichol was placed on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to a local hospital. En route to the hospital, this jersey was cut off of Nichol from the neck down in three separate places. The jersey was repaired and reinforced in a Frankenstein-like manner, but was never worn by Nichol again. There are also a few other sleeve repairs, board burns, stains, and puck/stick marks. Sleeves have been custom shortened, Cutting Edge Sports tag in hem.

Centre Scott Nichol played five games with the Buffalo Sabres in the late 90s. After an outstanding junior career, he was a fine scorer in the American Hockey League.

The native of Edmonton, Alberta played two years with the WHL's Portland Winter Hawks where he accumulated 71 goals. Nichol was chosen 272nd overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 1993 and became a solid member of their Rochester Americans farm team. He was a solid offensive producer and checker who battled tirelessly in the corners. In 1996 he scored 13 points in 19 playoff games as the Amerks won the Calder Cup.

Nichol continued to be an AHL regular and was recalled for three games in Buffalo during the 1997-98 season. A knee injury caused him to miss the second half of the 1999-00 season but he recovered to be a useful member of the IHL"s Detroit Vipers in 2000-01. After six seasons in the Sabres organization, Nichol signe as a free agent with the Calgary Flames in the summer of 2001. The former WHLer went on to play two seasons with the Flames before being acquired by the Chicago Blackhawks in the summer of 2003.

In his only season with Chicago, Nichol suited up for 75 games and registered 18 points (7-11-18) before having his rights acquired by the Nashville Predators in the summer of 2005.
