Moderate to Heavy overall wear with 5 sleeve repairs, many board burns, puck/stick marks, and unrepaired holes, perfect autograph in black sharpie on back #7. Nice piece from this awesome penalty killer and former Boston University star, who led the NHL with 6 shorthanded goals in 2002-03.

Shawn Bates played high school hockey for the Medford High Mustangs before enrolling at Boston University in the fall of 1993.

At BU, Bates played in four consecutive NCAA tournaments and twice his Terriers reached the national championship game, winning the title in 1995 and taking home All-Tournament honours. A star for the 1995 U.S. team at the World Junior Championships, Bates made his professional debut with the AHL's Providence Bruins in 1993 after the club's parent team the Boston Bruins drafted him in the fourth round, 103rd overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

The Melrose, Massachusetts native played parts of his first few years with the Bruins and their farm team in Providence, before signing as a free-agent with the New York Islanders in 2001-02. Upon his arrival with the Islanders, Bates became one of the teams more reliable players.
